About this Book

This publication presents a comprehensive analysis of the development of pedagogical science in the Czech Republic between 1993 and 2025, tracing its transformation from a post-socialist academic tradition into an increasingly integrated component of the European educational research and innovation ecosystem. The book examines the historical evolution of Czech pedagogy, the modernisation of educational institutions, the transformation of research methodologies, and the growing influence of international cooperation on national educational policies. Particular attention is devoted to the relationship between scholarly knowledge, curriculum development, teacher education, educational quality, and the changing social expectations placed upon schools and universities.
The study explores major achievements and contemporary research directions in Czech pedagogical science, including general pedagogy, curriculum theory, didactics, classroom research, educational psychology and measurement, sociology of education, inclusive education, digital learning, and comparative educational studies. It examines the contributions of leading academic centres in Prague, Brno, Olomouc, Ostrava, and other Czech regions, alongside the activities of national research, evaluation, and professional organisations. The publication also considers Czech participation in international educational assessments, European research programmes, Erasmus+ initiatives, and transnational academic networks, demonstrating how empirical evidence, methodological innovation, and international knowledge exchange have contributed to the development of educational research and practice.
By bringing together historical analysis, institutional perspectives, methodological developments, and contemporary educational challenges, the book offers an integrated account of the Czech Republic’s experience in implementing pedagogical innovations. It identifies the achievements and continuing limitations of educational modernisation, particularly regarding equity, inclusion, teacher professionalism, digital transformation, and the translation of research findings into educational policy and classroom practice. The publication is intended for educational researchers, university lecturers, policymakers, doctoral students, and professionals interested in the evolution of European pedagogical science, providing a foundation for understanding how national research traditions can develop within a broader European framework of scientific cooperation, educational improvement, and innovation.
